Large store, nice selection of furniture. Well lit, lots of fitting rooms. Very clean and organized. Lots of staff on hand. Tons of dishes sets, glassware and housewares all priced at what I call "ebay pricing", that is the same as I can buy the stuff on on ebay. Clothes for sale are all clean and in good shape. They don't put out torn or stained items. Clothing is high priced for average brands. Not a lot of designer brands or even better store brands on the racks and they ask a lot of monry for Walmart and Target brands. Mens Levis are priced at $8. I buy those at Goodwill for $3.99. On the day I was there, the white ticket clothing was on sale for $1 if you bought 5 items or more. Noticed the Mens Levis had a white ticket, so bought those for $1 and was a bargain. Otherwise would not have bought them. (Read More)
A note from Goodwill management: Most people find exceptional value at Goodwill-Suncoast stores on both donated and new merchandise. Our pricing must cover the labor costs of handling, sorting, storing, pricing, displaying and selling most items individually, rather than the bulk merchandise sold by traditional retailers. Occasionally we discover that an item is priced too high, at which point we adjust the pricing, or move the item to a Goodwill Outlet Store where we sell items for pennies on the dollar. We greatly appreciate the support of our shoppers and donors. Every purchase at Goodwill stores helps fund our employment services for people with disabilities and other challenges, with 88.2% of Goodwill-Suncoast's operating budget devoted to those programs. Each Goodwill Manasota store seems to have independence in how aggressively they want to price items. This one shoots for the moon, about the same as eBay prices but unlike eBay, you're SOL if the item you bought doesn't work or has a flaw you didn't realize until after purchasing it. At least eBay will allow you to return items that are not as described. Lots of great items end up at Goodwill's Bargain Barn after they have sat on the shelf too long in the other stores, usually because of over-agressive pricing. The only deals to be found her are on items that employees can't easily look up on eBay. By the way, don't ever trust the label on retail boxes here because after you get it home and find an entirely different item inside, you have no recourse. Avoid this place of you're a frugal buyer and try the Bargain Barn instead. Beware though, it's an experience like no other thrift store. For example, they'll wheel out a cart of used shoes and literally 20 people will swarm over it like pigs at the feeding trough. You'll get a feel for what it must be like to live in Haiti! (Read More)
