Staff are very rude and snobby. Prices are high considering all items are donated to them. Good items that are donated are often taken by staff and you will see them taking to their car or hiding where customers can not get.
George, a volunteer who is supposed to pick up items, is simply rude. And he doesn't seem to grasp the mission he is supposed to represent. If you can fire a volunteer, I would suggest you start with George.
Southern courtesy is forgotten all the way. I have NEVER encountered the rudeness I have from the staff in this store. For being a Faith Based Store I question their Christian Morality, the nasty bitter women that work at the front of the store. The guys in the back are worthless. They just want to hang out talking and smoking cigarettes. I have fun looking at the treasures in the store. I wish they had some competition because I would find another thrift store to shop in.
I have shopped here for years and I always find a great deal. I have never had any problems with the volunteers but I think it's because I understand that they are volunteers(not paid staff). This ministry has helped my family out of some tight spots also.
Have always loved going into this store especially because it helps the community. Wonderful consept but as the other reviews some staff are rude. Even if you are trying to make donations people walk away and if you try to ask where donations go they act like you are bothering them. Great place but it does not show a very Christian attitude.
Is this the HEM on hwy 24? It's a great organization for the surrounding area. I love how the donations benefit the community. However, for this to be a ministry the working staff are VERY RUDE individuals; not only to us, but to others we have experienced as well. In observance of the operation, I believe that not all donated items make it out to the sales floor, some of the donated items seem to leave the store to benefit the pockets of certain staff there. I really wish someone would investigate; check staff vehicles.
Hem is an outstanding thrift store with tons of nice clothing, books, furniture, household items, baby things, electronics, and much more. They often have free bread (day old) with purchases. An absolute favorite shopping and bargain spot for many locals from miles around.
I am an avid thrift store shopper and "The Hem" is by far the best one around. People actually wait outside before they open. Their selection and prices can't be beat! I shop there 2-3 times a week.
