I work in a church based thrift store in Kentucky and was looking forward to check out some of the stores while visiting Olean. Sadly this was the most rude customer service I've seen. Only one out of the three or four people there was pleasant. Not sure if I came on an off day or what but at one point I wondered if there was going to be an argument solely based on a customer asking a hopeful question. Also, the place is apparently "cash only" which is handwritten on a sign taped onto the counter and slightly hidden behind other handwritten taped up signs. Decent stuff and fairly well organized but I was incredibly disappointed in the customer service and its a poor representation of the cause it stands for.

You can usually find some good deals here but beware of the quality. The clothing selection on the 2nd floor is way better than on the first floor. Don't even bother with those first floor racks. Check carefully for stains. The basement is scary and pretty dirty but for those who are willing to brave it, there are good deals on housewares to be found.

Money from this thrift store goes to help those in the community with such things as food, housing assistance, and a host of other assistance. Some volunteers work in the store but some are paid employees. The director explained that it was difficult to have the schedule kept up with all volunteers and also was some legal issues as when a volunteer used the truck to pick up items for donation. So it's not 100% of the profits, but still a great deal goes to help those who need it and I admire the director's candor in discussing the store. This is a great store--has absolutely everything. The main entrance floor has newer clothes and shoes, knicknacks, toys, books and so on. Up the stairs is the rest of the clothing and there are some nice, but small, dressing rooms. There's lots of room upstirs and everything is nicely sorted and hanging on hangars. In the basement is the rest of the books, knickknacks, glassware, shoes as well as furniture. Be sure to look for signs about furniture they may have, but not displayed, on the main floor too. They have some very qulaity items at this store. This is an especially good place to go if you need business clothes--seem to get a lot of donations of those types of clothes. also, usually a great selection of children's items and many small toys and games. One warnign about this tore is they only take cash. But the good news is that you won't need to take a lot of cash to get good stuff.
