ASK TO TAKE ANYTHING MAJOR YOU WANT TO BUY OUTSIDE IN THE LIGHT TO SEE IT outside the darkness of their store; apparently, they will oblige. Take couches, tables, etc. outside so you can see really what anything looks like. Basically, the manager lied through her teeth to me in order to adhere to the store's policy. In short, I bought a table painted and decorated by one of their volunteers. I was excited to support their work and showed up today to pick it up. Once out of the dark store and into the light, everyone could see that the paint job was terribly shoddy: the volunteer had missed many sections, only done one coat, and painted over essential hardware. Now, the manager agreed with me that the job was shoddy, and I asked her, in my place, what she would do? She then went on about what she would do to fix the shoddy job--not looking at me at all while speaking. I let her know I did not believe her. I could tell her answer was not a real answer, but lying for the cause. I have bought many things there, friends and family have, and just last week I was bragging to someone about the store. You know, the average dissatisfied customer tells 30 people about their experience? Well, even though the table amounted to, in the end, false advertising, she would not take it back. I said, come now, should I have asked you to take it outside into the sunlight to see it? She said yes. Okay--so, that is my suggestion to anyone dealing with them; I NEVER will again. Before hitting an unpleasant stalemate with her, I suggested how to better train their volunteers--that if they are going to bother letting someone paint anything, please train them better. I will never cross their door again, and I will let everyone I know not to. My exit with her was less than graceful on my part (not proud of that) but I will spend my money at these places that support causes instead: Ebenezer's Attic in Wilkesboro, Yokefellow in Statesville, etc. I will work on this table to make it work for me--and to cover over the highly duplicitous sale of it to me by them. Yes, no refunds/no returns is their policy--but, so, I assume, forthright sales and being truthful are not. In their dark store, I could not see what I saw in the sunlight. Light exposes many falsehoods--thus, take anything you want from them outside to see it before purchase. And, again, their cause is more important than their ethics.
